Hello there!

I have a 2009 Ford Fiesta and have recently had problems with the alarm going off all the time (have just moved into a new house too, so as you can imagine this is far from an ideal situation! ) 😕

After doing some digging online I intially thought it could be the bonnet latch, as it was quite loose. On opening the bonnet and slamming it back down again it seemed to keep the alarm at bay (for a short while).

Also, a couple of days ago the centre console was telling me the boot is open when it definitely wasn't. Have also noticed that the last couple of days the car has been locking itself when the boot has been open.

The boot seems to be collecting a bit of water when it rains so I'm wondering if this could be the issue? The alarm does seem to go off a lot more when it rains; have a feeling it isn't a coincidence?

I took it to my local garage today for a diagnostics and they said there is a couple of issues but they couldn't tell me exactly what they were 🙄. I have it booked into Ford next week for a diagnostics...costing a whopping £103. I'm gutted but it has to be done.

I'm terrified that this is going to end up costing an arm and a leg. Was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts as to what the problem could be (and the cost) , as I'm going to be spending the whole week worrying about it now!

Hoping someone can shed some light and thanks in advance.

Each switch for a door or bonnet, etc. is just that...an on/off switch. Door open/door closed. I would see if I could close all the switches manually. Like jam something in them to close the switch. Then try the alarm. One or more of them is not showing the door closed (open switch). You will likely find a switch that is not closing all the time or not at all. You may have to pull the switch out its mount to do this. Also, you can test each switch with a multimeter to see if it is closing or not. Either way, this is not rocket science. Sometimes the stitch just gets worn, or wet (yep) and corrodes the contacts, or you have a bad ground at that switch. This what the shop will do...go around and test each switch to find the issue and fix it. One last little item. The dome light usually comes on when a door is open. Try all the doors to see if the light goes out when the door is closed. Not sure if you have a bonnet light to test, but you should have a hatch light to test.

Firstly - welcome to our forums.

Unfortunately, many of us live in the USA - and are the (as usual) last to know about things...even after several model upgrades (called Facelifts around here - which really aren't all that much of a facelift)

So to help, does your car have 4-doors? IT may be from a mis-laid bent or bruised tab used to seat against a connector recess that - in used this way - also fashions to becomes something that some people can get impaled with if they are not paying attention.

On my vehicle I several types of door ajar buttons, enclosures addendums - like below - on the rear doors - and only on the rear doors.

Does your car have this?

Check the alignment and throw of these - if they don't match up or have busted a seam in the gasket grommet - allowing water entry - this can cause the event you're having - the vehicle thinks it's being broken into. You can clear it, but it just comes back.

I've had lost a blanket due to the "stab wound" this setup can do - so if you have car seats, blankets or some type of cover for the seats, make sure it's not pinching in areas like shown above - it can affect the ability for the closure and door ajar sensor condition to clear properly.
