Needs Oil?

Hmmm...Hard shifting can mean many things.

Lack of oil is one of them, because a bushing is getting seized up...

But also, you might have an issue with the "SHIFTER FORK" - so do you have a Manual or Automatic - transmission?

IF it's an automatic, then that is a TCM/Actuator problem.

IF you have IB5 - 5-speed manual - start by taking that little cover off the transmission gearbox - and gently pry off the E-clip - and gently try to pry that metal bracket towards the front of the car - by about a 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch (or about 1cm)

So you can apply a simple auto oil to the bushing and shaft.

Press the bracket back in to seat it - do the pull and push to bracket to work the oil in to free up any stiffness - applying some oil to get the lubrication on the pivot shaft.

Once it's easy to pull-off and press on - then reattach the E-clip and put the gearbox plastic cover back on. You should be able to find 3-rd gear.

A slight lack of power?

That is even more of an Enigma...

Could be from Ethanol or grades of fuel and the additives (or lack thereof) for summer blends versus winter.

You're driving around a 2011 car, how has maintenance been on it?
  • Have the plugs been changed; does it leak oil?
  • Do you see blue smoke coming out of the tailpipe?
  • Lack of power can also indicate...
    • Plugged Air filter
    • Rear Fuel No-Cap filler neck needs service
    • Throttle Body needs cleaning
    • PCV valve and its hose need service/replacement
    • MAF/MAP sensors need cleaning
    • EVAP hose and Brake BOOSTER hoses are weakened and collapsing affects vacuum
    • Belts worn
    • Battery and charging system issues (loading caused by heavy electrical loads affects power to wheels)
    • Worn Plugs cause poor performance and even worse fuel economy.
    • AC system needs to be checked low FREON or lubricant needs servicing.
    • Water Pump and coolant system need service
    • Low oil level or wrong oil weight (5W-20 / 5W-30) or even oil filter collapsed causing sluggish performance.
      • Sluggishness caused by oil pressure being low, enough to keep the oil light out, but the ADVANCE timing (That Valve timing) is affected by the LACK of pressure or not enough in volume of the oil, it can't flow into the gearing to advance timing properly
      • - will force the engine to retard the timing to reduce damages from excessive spark knock from LACK of timing advance the CAMs can't do
      • - due to the LACK of oil volume and pressure to do so.
  • Each and every one of the above can affect startup and initial idle - drivability quality
    • - so, if engine is cooled (or cold-starting) and it runs rough and starts at a really high - idle and every time it's warmed up - still does this rev-up and settle down when warm - then you might have lines and possibly intake manifold seals that are leaking - letting air in, which is affecting the ability to keep the engine idling smoothly as it did before.
You have a multi-symptom issue with similar outcomes but doesn't do you any good until you can address and verify the simpler tune-ups steps have been done so you can narrow down to find the root cause of this.
