Engine malfunction light came on

I have 2012 ford fiesta se 1.6 automatic and, the engine malfunction light came wrench sign. Now it was pouring rain out as well. Car was still running ok the I got to my destination turn the car off and the light did not come back on. I guess I need to hook a code reader up
