- What I Drive
- 2016 Focus SE, 5sp
Hello. I'm new here, and to forums in general. I couldn't find a better place to post this. I'm mechanically inclined and have worked on a lot of vehicles, but I'm not an automotive expert by any stretch. This issue might be for the technicians in the group, but I'm happy for any help available.
I have a 2016 Focus SE 5sp, with a good old key-style ignition. In the past week, the car has failed to start three or four times. When I open the driver's door, the interior and dash lights come on as normal (see exception). I install my key (or my spare) and turn it to start, and nothing happens. It's as if the ignition switch is not working. Then, if I try again several hours later, everything seems fine and the car starts and drives. I've noticed that when the car is in this "no start" state, and I hit the door lock/unlock the driver side parking lamps flash, but the passenger side (front and rear) do not. When the car is working, everything works as it should.
The first couple of times, I disconnected and reconnected the main cable(C1035C) in the Battery Junction Box, and that seemed to fix it. The last time, it had no effect, so I removed the battery cable for 5 minutes. It did not help, the key still did nothing.
I was reading the codes with Forscan and only found freeze frame data from 7 days prior, such as Code: U3006 - Control Module Input Power 'A' Circuit / Open
I disconnected the dealer-installed Remote Start by unplugging all the wires to the box, and it seemed that solved it. But after a few minutes, the key went back to not working.
Another, seemingly linked, issue: I left the car unlocked after driving it, and a few hours later. I opened the door to lock it with the manual switch and the button on the door didn't work. I pushed it several times, stopped and tried again when suddenly it worked on the unlock. When I pressed lock, if I recall correctly, the horn honked twice (no key). When all is normal, the horn only ever beeped once, and I have to hit lock twice on the remote for any sound. Granted, I almost never use the manual buttons on the door, so that ight be normal. I came back to the car again later, and this time I noticed that the interior light didn't come on, and again the door buttons didn't work right away. When they did, after several pushes, the interior lights also came on. I know this is a lot of seemingly unnecessary detail, but I feel it is all relevant...somehow.
What I think I can eliminate:
Thanks in advance.

What I think I can eliminate:
- Fuse - it fixes itself
- Key/Fob Battery - neither key works, or both work when it starts
- Starter/Gournd/Battery issue - it starts when it knows the key is there
- Ignition switch - would not cause PS light to fail to flash on remote lock/unlock
- Body Control Module issue - the parking lamps don't flash when locking/unlocking remotely when issue occurs, then work as normal when there is no issue.
- I am venturing a guess that no one has had this exact issue, but really hope someone out there has, and solved it.
Thanks in advance.
