2005 ford focus intermittent dashes in the odometer

iam getting intermittent dashes in the odometer causeing the car not to start.it seems like mainly happends after I drive the car for a hour or so.then I patiently turn the key back and forth and pull it in and out then dashes go away and the car starts any help appreciated

That means there's a communication error with the ECU. Have you done any electrical work on the Focus recently? If not make sure the ground wires to the battery are secured and tightened.
